Cork Rubber Sheets for Automotive, Electrical, Gas and Construction Sealing

Cork rubber sheet is a composite material that brings together two properties no single material delivers on its own: the compressibility and recovery of natural cork, and the flexibility and shelf life of rubber. That combination is why it is specified for sealing, vibration control and gasketing across automotive, electrical equipment, gas, construction, surfacing, industrial equipment, transport and railway applications.

Kaxite supplies four families of cork-based sheet material, each formulated around a different rubber binder so the finished sheet matches the working environment — general purpose, oil and fuel resistant, or weather and chemical resistant. Sheets and rolls are available in multiple thicknesses and densities, and we can assist in matching the grade to your specification.

Four Cork and Cork Rubber Sheet Grades

Each grade below is built around a specific rubber binder. The choice between them comes down to two questions: what is the sheet sealing against, and what is the working environment?

General Purpose Natural Cork Composition Sheets
Grade 01

Natural Cork Composition Sheets

A very economical all-purpose gasket material composed of a 10/20 grind composition cork. Supplied in rolls and sheets. Suited to light to medium duty sealing where cost efficiency is the primary consideration and the working environment is dry.

Oil & Fuel Cork and Nitrile Rubber sheets
Grade 02

Cork and Nitrile Rubber Sheets

A blend of high-quality cork and nitrile rubber offering high resistance to oil, aromatic fuels and solvents. Each grade of the H-series can be certified to meet Grades A, B or C of MIL C 6183 B Class 1. Used where the seal comes into contact with petroleum-based media.

Weather & Chemical Cork and Neoprene Rubber
Grade 03

Cork and Neoprene Rubber

High-quality cork blended and bound with neoprene rubber, available in soft, medium and firm densities. The E-series grades can be certified to meet Grades A, B or C of MIL C 6183 B Class 2, and are used in outdoor and chemically exposed sealing applications.

General Sheet Cork Rubber Sheets
Grade 04

Cork Rubber Sheets

A general-purpose material for light to medium duty applications, mostly used indoors. Cork rubber sheet works well under constant use, has a smooth surface, and does not contain through holes or voids within the rubber-cork matrix.

Which Cork Rubber Sheet Grade Should You Specify?

The four grades share a common cork base but differ in binder and certification path. The table below maps the differences that matter most during specification.

What Cork Rubber Sheet Does Well

Cork and nitrile rubber sheet close up

Compressibility with recovery

Cork granules compress under load and recover when the load is released. Combined with a rubber binder, the sheet keeps that recovery over years rather than losing it after the first few thermal cycles. This is the property that makes cork rubber sheet effective as a flange gasket — it keeps pressing back against the mating surfaces as bolt load relaxes.

Compressible Recovery retains bolt load Anti-vibration

Stable shelf life

Rubber-binder cork sheet does not age the way plain cork does. It holds its dimensions and mechanical properties during long storage, so sheets can be cut from stock on demand rather than ordered just-in-time. For workshops that cut gaskets in small batches, this reduces waste and simplifies inventory.

Long shelf life Dimensionally stable Cut-to-size

Clean, void-free sheet surface

Cork rubber sheets have a smooth surface and contain no through holes or voids within the matrix. That matters for thin gaskets, where a single void becomes a leak path under pressure. Density grades (soft, medium, firm) let the same material be tuned for different bolt-load and compliance requirements.

Applications

Where Cork Rubber Sheets Are Used

The combination of compressibility, vibration damping and chemical resistance has made cork rubber sheet a standard material across several industries.

AutomotiveGaskets and seals in fuel, oil and cooling systems, plus anti-vibration shims and mounting pads.
Electrical EquipmentGasketing and cushioning in transformer, switchgear and control panel assemblies.
Gas & Fuel SystemsSealing where aromatic fuel and solvent contact is expected; nitrile grade is the usual choice.
ConstructionExpansion joint fillers, bearing pads and waterproofing gaskets that need to compress and recover.
Industrial EquipmentFlange gaskets, pump and valve seating, and equipment mounting pads that damp vibration.
Transport & RailwayVibration isolation and weather sealing in rolling stock and heavy transport equipment.
SurfacingUnderlay and cushioning layers where impact absorption and long service life are both required.
General IndustryCut gaskets, shims and pads where a low-cost compressible sheet with long shelf life is needed.
Marine & OutdoorNeoprene grade handles salt air, ozone and weather exposure better than natural rubber binders.

How to Specify Cork Rubber Sheet for Your Application

Four pieces of information are enough for us to recommend a grade and confirm a quotation. If you already have a specification or a part drawing, send that instead — it usually saves a round of questions.

Media in contact

Is the sheet sealing against dry air, oil, fuel, solvent, water or chemical media? This determines whether the nitrile, neoprene or plain cork grade is appropriate.

Thickness and format

Sheet or roll, and what thickness. Standard thicknesses are available and custom thicknesses can be produced on request depending on the grade.

Density requirement

Soft, medium or firm. Softer densities conform better to uneven surfaces; firmer densities hold higher bolt loads.

Certification requirement

If MIL C 6183 B Class 1 or Class 2 certification is required, tell us upfront so the correct H-series or E-series grade is quoted.

Buyer Questions

Cork Rubber Sheet FAQs

What is cork rubber sheet made from?

It is a composite of natural cork granules bound with a rubber binder. Different rubber binders — nitrile, neoprene or a general-purpose rubber — produce different chemical resistance profiles while keeping the compressibility and recovery of cork.

What is the difference between natural cork composition sheet and cork rubber sheet?

Natural cork composition sheet is a composition cork material without a rubber binder, suited to dry, light to medium duty sealing. Cork rubber sheet adds a rubber binder, which improves flexibility, shelf life and resistance to oils, fuels, weather or chemicals depending on the binder used.

Which grade should I use for fuel and oil contact?

The cork and nitrile rubber sheet (H-series). It has high resistance to oil, aromatic fuels and solvents, and is available certified to Grades A, B or C of MIL C 6183 B Class 1.

Which grade handles outdoor and chemical exposure?

The cork and neoprene rubber sheet (E-series). Neoprene resists weather, ozone and chemical exposure better than natural rubber, and the E-series grades can be certified to MIL C 6183 B Class 2.

What densities are available?

Cork and neoprene rubber sheet is supplied in soft, medium and firm densities. Density selection depends on the required bolt load and the surface compliance needed at the joint.

Do you supply sheets and rolls?

Yes. Cork-based sheet materials are supplied in both sheet and roll form in a range of thicknesses, with custom thicknesses available on request depending on the grade.

Can you help me identify the right grade for my application?

Yes. Send us the media in contact, working temperature, thickness requirement, density preference and any certification requirement. We will recommend the appropriate grade and confirm availability.

Are certifications available?

The cork and nitrile H-series can be certified to MIL C 6183 B Class 1 (Grades A / B / C), and the cork and neoprene E-series can be certified to MIL C 6183 B Class 2 (Grades A / B / C). Request certification at the quotation stage so the correct grade is supplied.
